PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an automatic tracking device capable of automatically tracking a human body while surely photographing the face of the human body by a camera by bringing a position to be the area of 20% from the upper side of the human image to the area of the entire human image on a screen to a screen center so as to bring the face of the human body to the screen center and automatically tracking it in the case of automatically tracking the human body. SOLUTION: An image processor 52 and a CPU 54 fetch images for two frames photographed by the camera 40 to an image memory 50, obtain the difference image and extract a moving human image. Then, the centroid coordinate (X moving coordinate) of the human image is obtained for the horizontal direction of the screen and the coordinate (Y moving coordinate) to be the area of 20% from the top of the area of the entire human image is obtained for the vertical direction of the screen. Then, the X moving coordinate and the Y moving coordinate are supplied to a universal head controller 12 and the photographing direction of the camera 40 is moved by a universal head 10 so as to bring the X moving coordinate and the Y moving coordinate to the screen center.
