PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a digital copying system that can reduce a time until a copy result is obtained, when a user uses a controller connected to a copying machine main body to instruct copying operations. SOLUTION: An interface for a copy instruction, in addition to a scan instruction and a print instruction, is provided between the controller 20 and the copying machine body 10. The controller 20 discriminates whether an instruction entered by the user, using a control panel 22 indicates simple copying attained only with a resource of the copying machine body 10 or indicates sophisticated copying requiring a resource of the controller 20 and gives copy instructions to the copying machine body 10, when the instruction indicates simple copying. The copying machine body 10, receiving the copying instruction, uses an image path changeover section 13 to set an internal mode to an image path and transmits an image obtained by a scanner 11 to a print engine 14 via only the image path in the inside of the copying machine body 10 and not via the controller 20.
