PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a hologram recording medium, having high diffraction efficiency which uses refractive index modulation. SOLUTION: The hologram recording medium is obtained by using a polymer azobenzene liquid crystal expressed by formula (I) as the hologram recording material. In the formula, R is H or an alkyl group, X is an alkyl, alkoxy, cyano or nitro group, (m) is 1 to 20 and (n) represents polymerization degree.
