The absorbtion heat pump has a number of modules inserted in 3 heat transfer medium circuits (W1), each containing a pump (P1,P2,P3). The first heat transfer medium circuit (W1) contains the adsorbers (A1,A2,A3) and desorbers (D1,D2,D3) for all modules, with a high temperature heat exchanger (HWT) between the hottest desorber and adsorber and a low temperature heat exchanger (LWT) between the coldest desorber and adsorber, the second heat transfer medium circuit coupling all condensers of the desorber modules to a condenser heat exchanger and the third heat transfer medium circuit coupling all evaporators of the desorber modules with an evaporator heat exchanger A switching device (U1) in the first heat transfer medium circuit provides cyclic operation of all adsorbers and desorbers, with a second switching device used for cyclic operation of the condensers and evaporators. An Independent claim for an operating method for an adsorbtion heat pump is also included.
