PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a magneto-optical recording medium the protection film of which is excellent in wear resistance and durability regardless of the film thinner than the usual one and can be manufactured by a rationalized process. SOLUTION: The protection layer on a recording layer is formed by using a diamond-like carbon film, the average surface roughness Ra of which is made to be 30 or smaller Angstroms.
