PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain highly precise depth information without the remarkable increase of processing cost at the time of obtaining depth information on the object of image pickup by a stereo method. SOLUTION: The corresponding point detection part 131 of a depth information calculation part 130 extracts corresponding points being the objects of image pickup from image data obtained from image pickup parts 110 and 120. When an area where the extraction of the corresponding point is difficult exists, a resolution change command part 132 gives the instruction of a resolution change to resolution change parts 113 and 123. The corresponding point detection part 131 obtains image data of changed resolution on the area and matches again the corresponding points. When the corresponding points are matched, a three-dimensional coordinate calculation part 133 generates depth information based on matching and outputs it to an output part 140.
