PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To realize a character recognizing device, with which a work time for correction is shortened and a recognition result is efficiently corrected. SOLUTION: The device is provided with a scanner 1 for scanning a slip, a storage ROM or a RAM 3 for storing image information which is inputted from an OCR by the scanning of the scanner 1, a central processing unit 2 for recognizing a character from the image information through the use of a dictionary 6, etc., a means for obtaining information concerning the certainty of an obtained character recognition result, a means for obtaining the representative value of the slip from information, with respect to the certainty of each character and a means for deciding the order of slip recognition result correction, in the order of smaller representative values. The recognition and the correction of the recognition result are omitted for those slips having a comparatively large representative value.
