PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a manufacturing method of obtaining carbonaceous material from crystalline cellulose and the like such as walnut shell for a secondary battery negative electrode material. SOLUTION: The manufacturing method comprises a first process in which the walnut shell, pistachio shell or olive seed is heated in an inert gas atmosphere or in vacuum at a temperature ranging from 30 deg.C to 700 deg.C and a second process in which thereafter they are heated at a temperature ranging from 700 deg.C to 1500 deg.C and carbonized.
