METHOD AND DEVICE FOR ENCODING REMAINDER COEFFICIENT OF OBJECT OF OPTIONAL SHAPE

PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve problems that present FGS encoding technology is not so much efficient for the encoding of an object of an optional shape in an extended layer though a fine grain size scalability procedure in MPEG-4 is mainly used for a simple and core visual profile application and one of the features of the core visual profile is encoding of the object of the optional shape and the present FGS encoding technology supports only the efficient encoding of a rectangular object in the extended layer. SOLUTION: This is a method for efficiently encoding a residual coefficient obtained from the optional shape object. This invention is extremely effective for improving the encoding efficiency of the optional shape object in the extended layer by skipping a transparent block for expressing a block pattern encoded for a certain macro block and using a shorter variable length code.
