摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To regenerate a stable photoreceptor with no unevenness in photosensitive characteristics. SOLUTION: A used photoreceptor 1 used in an image forming process comprises a cylindrical electrically conductive substrate 2 and an organic photosensitive layer 3 formed on the substrate 2. The photosensitive layer 3 is removed from the substrate 2, the surface of the exposed substrate 2 is machined and a fresh organic photosensitive layer 4 is formed on the machined surface to manufacture a regenerated photoreceptor 5. The photoreceptor 1 has an X value of >=440 represented by the equation X=((the service life of the photoreceptor set in terms of A4 size)/(the circumference of the photoreceptor))×α(αis 1 when recording paper of A4 size is conveyed in its transverse direction and an image is formed andαis 1.4 when recording paper of A4 size is conveyed in its longitudinal direction and an image is formed). The surface of the substrate 2 is not treated with alumite. The substrate 2 is made of Al and contains <=0.1 wt.% impurities other than Al. An oxide coating formed on the surface of the substrate 2 is removed by the machining and the stable regenerated photoreceptor 5 with little unevenness in photosensitive characteristics is provided.
