PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide the driving method of a plasma display device which is free from a display defect due to abnormal discharge which is generated in a transfer period from an initialization period to a write-in period. SOLUTION: In this driving method, in the transfer period from the initialization period to the write-in period, a voltage change in which to the perform once of discharge is not intend is made to be changed smoothly or the time interval between a voltage change in which the perform once of discharge is not intend to in the same period and a voltage change which generates the first sustaining discharge are set shorter than a discharge forming time. As a result, it is possible to prevent that cells having a low discharge starting voltage which are produced by the variation on the manufacturing of panels react to the voltage change in which the perform once of discharge is not intend to in the period to discharge and the cells eliminate barrier charge needed for performing sustaining discharge.
