The seat element and/or seat back has a cover(16) formed from a prestretchable plastic shrinkable by thermal action which may be a synthetic fiber based fabric. The frame(12) over which the cover is fitted has at least in sections a hollow profile, and an edge section of the cover fits inside the hollow space formed therein. The edge section of the cover may be reinforced. An independent claim is included for a procedure for the manufacture of especially a motor vehicle's seat in which the cover is heated to a critical temperature and then by subsequent cooling shrunk to target size predetermined by the frame.
