The present invention concerns polypeptides that are involved in paracytosis. The polypeptides are involved in paracytosis through epithelial cell layers such as lung epithelial cell layers and are preferably derived from Haemophilus influenzae. The polypeptides of the invention include paracytin and polypeptides with amino acid sequences identical or homologous to SEQ ID NO's 3 and 4. The invention further relates to nucleotide sequences that encode polypeptides of the invention, to genetic constructs containing such nucleotide sequences, to methods for the preparation of the polypeptides of the invention, to pharmaceutical compositions such as vaccines comprising the polypeptides of the invention and to various uses of the polypeptides, nucleotide sequences and/or genetic constructs.
