A titanium-iron based composite oxide pigment, characterized as comprising a quasi-brookite type composite oxide represented by an empirical formula: (M1 -x . Fex)O . 2TiO2 or an empirical formula: (Fe1-y . Aly)2O3 .TiO2, wherein M denotes any of Mg, Sr and Zn, which are two-valent metals, the ratios of Fe, Al and M to Ti are in the ranges of 0.3 <= Fe/Ti <= 4.5, 0 <= Al/Ti <= 6.5 and 0 <= M/Ti <= 2.6, and x and y are in the ranges of 0 <= x < 1 an d 0 <= y < 1 respectively. The pigment is enhanced in yellowness and also exhibits more stable color development, as compared to conventional titanium-iron based composite oxide pigments, and thus can be generally used for the coloring of plastics, ceramics, coatings and the like.
