The system has at least one fuel cell with an anode part (1a) and a cathode part (1b) and a CO absorber (8), whose absorber region (8a) is associated with a fuel delivery side of the anode part and a desorption arrangement corresponding to a desorption region (8b) with an arrangement for feeding in a desorption flow containing oxygen. The desorption arrangement contains a desorption flow feed connected to the desorption flow entry side of the desorption region, which branches off from a cathode gas feed line and/or is connected to a cathode gas outlet of the cathode part.
