An aromatic polycarbonate composition containing phosphorus atoms bonded to the polycarbonate chain in an amount of 0.05 to 65 ppm and further containing a free compound of trivalent phosphorus and a free compound of pentavalent phosphorus in a specific proportion. It is excellent in transparency, hue stability, and residence stability during molding and is suitable for use as a disk substrate.
