CENTRALIZED SYSTEM FOR DISTRIBUTED CONTENT MANAGEMENT OF AN INTERNET OR INTRANET SITE

The invention uses a normalized data set structure to allow remote users to update and edit information available to a multiple user system. A unit of information is specified as an information "brick" which can be built into nodes and leafs of a tree comprising the information content of the system. Bricks are classified into three types: page bricks, text bricks, and object bricks. The content of these bricks are normalized so that they may be transferred throughout the network without translation processing until a user requests display at his or her terminal. A series of customizable "context" allows for a uniform graphic and semantic display of the content of the site. Data and application relay server (12, 13) modules keep track of data path origination and proper linking of embedded content such that the information tree topology remains manageable. The topology of the system allows the users to develop and maintain content individually, while allowing for centralized management of the system's operation. Content is stored in an industry standard SQL server format running on industry standard operating systems such as Microsoft Windows NT.
