A process for producing an oxirane compound from an olefin and an organic peroxide other than ethylbenzene hydroperoxide in the presence of an immobilized catalyst layer, characterized by satisfying the following requirements (1) to (4). (1) The catalyst layer has been partitioned into n sections arranged in series (wherein n is an integer of 2 or larger). (2) A fresh feed of the organic peroxide is separated into portions, which are supplied to respective inlets of the partitioned catalyst layer. (3) A fresh feed of the olefin is supplied to the inlet of the first catalyst layer. (4) The reaction mixture discharged from the outlet of each catalyst layer excluding the final catalyst layer is supplied to the inlet of the subsequent catalyst layer. Thus, the reaction, which is accompanied by heat generation, can be prevented from running away and can be carried out stably while attaining a high yield.
|
