The switchable heat exchanger(1) has a mechanical switching unit and a transmission element(3) with a first face(4) which during a switching action is brought into contact with a second face(6) thermally connected to a second transfer medium. The switching action entails a translatory or rotary movement of the transmission element. The first and second faces are constructed level. The transmission element has a heat exchanger plate(30), and in cross section is L-shaped with the longer side forming the first face.
