The camera support (4) is fitted to the automobile body so that it can be extended out as required for viewing the area immediately adjacent the vehicle, e.g. in dependence on a vehicle velocity signal or a gear selection signal. The camera support may also be used for reception of an additional device, e.g. a windscreen washer or a trunk lid handgrip. An Independent claim for a method for viewing the area immediately adjacent an automobile is also included.
