PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To accurately read the front edge part and rear edge part of a carried original copy. SOLUTION: Rollers 32 and 61 are respectively arranged at the upstream side and downstream side of a sub-scanning direction as the carrying direction of an original copy 2. A CCD line sensor 14 reads a picture between the roller 32 and the roller 61. The rotation of the rollers 32 and 61 is transmitted through a gear 62 to a rotary encoder 31, and the rotary quantity is detected by a photo-interrupter 35.
