PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To enhance antisliding strength of a magnetic recording medium at the time of intermittent or continuous contact running of a slider. SOLUTION: The magnetic recording medium excellent in high recording density and high reliability and capable of preventing sliding destruction wherein the magnetic layer is broken by making the Young's modulus of a base layer lower than the Young's moduli of a magnetic layer and a protective film and making the hardness or the yield stress of the base layer nearly equal to or higher than the hardness or the yield stress of the magnetic layer and the protective film and a magnetic disk device are provided.
