PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an optical disk reproducing unit which eliminates a possibility of chipping of teeth by preventing the exertion of stress on a driving gear when a rotor emerges forward from a front panel and a disk tray is held static. SOLUTION: The constitution to drive the disk tray 1 and to rotate the same up to a pickup unit section 7 by means of a drive mechanism having the driving gear 10 and a driven gear 12 meshed therewith is adopted. When the meshing of the driving gear and the driven gear is intermittent, these gears permit the idling of the driving gear so as to restrain the rotation of the disk tray against the external force imparted to the disk tray.
