A rotary head device which is easy to produce and very high in reliability with respect to environmental changes in temperature, humidity, etc., and which is of high performance with satisfactory rotation balance and allows easy mounting and removal of the rotary transformer, wherein reception and transmission of signals by a magnetic head (21) attached to a rotary drum (2) supported for rotation with respect to a fixed drum (1) are effected through the winding (17) on the rotation side of the rotary transformer which is in the form of a flat plate attached to the attaching surface (2a) of the rotary drum (2) and the winding (18) on the fixed side of the rotary transformer which is in the form of a flat plate attached to the side of the fixed drum (1), the winding (17) on the rotary side of the rotary transformer being urged for attachment to the attaching surface (2a) of the rotary drum (2) through an elastic member (16).
