PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a pipe joint/manifold assembly for a heat exchanger and to provide a method for positioning the pipe joint in the manifold. SOLUTION: This method comprises a process for preparing the manifold 22 including a wall 30 having a through-hole 32, a process for preparing a body 42, a nipple 44 extending from the body and the pipe joint 24 including an opening 54 penetrating the body for accessing to the inner surface 50 of the body, a process for inserting the nipple from one face of the wall into the through-hole 32 so as to position the body of the pipe joint in one face of the wall 30 and position one part 48 of the nipple in the other face of the wall, and a deformation process for deforming the inside surface of the nipple by a deformation tool inserted in the opening of the body for enlarging the part 48 of the nipple for preventing the nipple from being pulled out from the through-hole.
