<p>Manufacture of components from flexible sheet of reinforced plastic, using a mould with two sections which can be moved relative to one another, comprises laying the sheet material over the first part (2) of the open mould, and pressing it against the mould by means of one or more pushers. A thermoplastic layer extruded onto the sheet material before the mould is closed or injected onto it after closure. Manufacture of components from flexible sheet of reinforced plastic (6), using a mould with two sections (1, 2) which can be moved relative to one another, comprises laying the sheet material over the first part (2) of the open mould, preferably after pre-heating, and pressing it against the mould by means of one or more pushers (8) movable relative to the second part (1) of the mould. The pushers are first applied to the material in the centre of the mould and then in stages outwards from the centre. The mould is then closed, the sheet material is compacted, and any material projecting from the sides of the mould is cut off by a ring cutter before the mould is opened and the component removed. The ring cutter (10) also acts to form a compression chamber with the two parts of the mould, allowing a thermoplastic layer to be extruded onto the sheet material before the mould is closed or injected onto it after closure, e.g. to make reinforcing ribs on the moulded component.</p> |
