PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a liquid crystal device and an electronic instrument capable of clearly displaying and concurrently reducing power consumption and preventing the dispersion of brightness of a picture in transmission display and a coarse feel of the picture. SOLUTION: In the liquid crystal device, a liquid crystal 40 is held between a pair of substrates 2, 32. Electrodes 8, 38 are respectively formed on the surfaces placed opposite to each other of the respective substrates 2, 32. A plurality of mutually separated display pixels 60 are formed by the overlapping parts of the electrodes 8, 38 on the respective substrates in the substrate surfaces direction. Reflection layers 4 composed of metal films are formed on the substrate side of the electrode 8 on the one substrate 2. The pixels 60 are formed in rectangular shapes. A plurality of opening parts 4a are arranged in a line along the direction of the long side of the pixels 60 on the reflection layers 4 inside the pixels 60 and the peripheries of the opening parts 4a are not in contact with the peripheries of the pixels 60. |
