PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a polyvinyl alcohol-based molding industrially readily obtainable by hot melt molding without causing discoloration and an offensive smell by thermal decomposition, having excellent mechanical properties such as strength, etc., which a polyvinyl alcohol essentially has. SOLUTION: This method for saponifying a vinyl ester-based polymer comprises melting and molding a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin composition comprising 100 pts.wt. of a polyvinyl alcohol-based resin (A) and 0.05-25 pts.wt. of a hydrazine-based compound (B) is melted and molded.
