PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic which has excellent stability for a long period of time without needing the employment a surfactant and gives a good use touch and a good finish touch. SOLUTION: This oil-in-water type emulsion cosmetic is prepared by forming an emulsion from an alkyl-modified carboxyvinylpolymer represented by the general formula (1) [R1 is hydrogen atom or a 10 to 30C alkyl group; (n), (n'), (m) and (m') are each such the arbitrary number as giving the expression: n+n'+m+m'=40 to 100; (l) is such the arbitrary number as giving the mol.wt. within a prescribed range] and having a mol.wt. of 500,000 to 3,000,000 as an emulsifier and other cosmetic components, and then formulating glucomannan or the like to the emulsion.
