PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a tunnel boring machine capable of performing an efficient excavation in hot line so as to realize a high-speed construction in the renewal work of an existing tunnel. SOLUTION: This tunnel boring machine comprises a propeller body 1 comprising an excavating means 11 rotatable around the axis of a new tunnel to excavate the peripheral part S concerning the internal hollow sectional area N1 of the existing tunnel, a thrust imparting means 12 for imparting a thrust necessary for excavation to the excavating means 11, a reaction gaining means 13 provided integrally with the thrust imparting means 12 to gain a boring reaction from the pit wall, and a discharging means 14 for discharging the excavated matter excavated by the excavating means 11, the propeller body being housed in the remaining area other than an using area used for passing, water passing and other purposes during advance of the internal hollow sectional area of the new tunnel; and a falling matter protective means 2 for protecting the internal hollow sectional area N1 of the existing tunnel from a falling matter, the means 2 being movable following the movement of the excavating means in the tunnel extending direction. |
