An end-point detection frame, including the coordinates (X1, Y1) in a first coordinate axis direction, is set in the coordinate system. The detection frame in the first direction is moved in a second coordinate axis direction in the coordinate system. The coordinates of end points in the first direction are located with respect to the image data, thereby finding a maximum position Xmax of the end points in the first direction. An end-point detection frame in the second direction is set centering on the coordinates (Xmax, Y1). In the coordinate system, edge detection in the second direction is performed within the detection frame in the second direction, with respect to the image data to find the maximum position Ytop of end points in the second direction. Coordinates (Xmax, Ytop) are used as the object of end-point coordinates.
