Natural and synthetic polyamide materials e.g. silk, wool and nylon are dyed with dyes which have a fibre reactive group and a cationic group when in aqueous solution, the dyeing is carried out at a pH of 5-11, followed by a treatment at a pH of 2-5 in a solution of an organic acid which may be added to the dyebath or may be contained in a fresh bath. Preferably wool is dyed at a pH of 5-8 and the finishing treatment preferably at a pH of 3-4.5 in a bath containing formic or acetic acid. Many dyes having the above reactive and cationic groups under the conditions of dyeing are specified.
