PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem of a conventional gate valve in which it is necessary to thicken a partitioning wall supporting a valve guard to prevent a seal failure caused by the deformation of a wall, when applying a force separating a valve plate from a valve seat by the atmospheric pressure difference. SOLUTION: This gate valve is formed with a movement prevention means, which prevents the valve guard for pressurizing the valve plate to the valve seat from moving in the direction separating from the valve seat, on a wall formed with the valve seat. The movement prevention means is constituted of an inverse-U-shaped bent part formed in one end of the valve guard and a recess provided in the wall formed with the valve seat for receiving the tip of the bending part. When the valve guard is positioned for closing the valve opening, the bent part is received in the recess part and the valve guard is prevented from moving in the direction separating from the valve seat.
