<p>PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To lengthen lifetime with improved reliability in detecting a preceding vehicle while reducing electric power consumption. SOLUTION: When detecting operation is resumed after stopping the detecting operation of a forward object detecting means 1, a reliability confirming time T1 is shortened to T2 (<T1) in detecting the preceding vehicle, and when the preceding vehicle is continuously detected on an own vehicle traveling lane during the reliability confirming time T2, the preceding vehicle is recognized as a formal preceding vehicle on the own vehicle traveling lane. A delay of detection of the preceding vehicle after resuming the detecting operation of the forward object detecting means 1 can be thereby decreased, and the reliability in detecting the preceding vehicle can be improved with lengthened lifetime of the forward object detecting means 1 while reducing the electric power consumption.</p> |
