PURPOSE: An apparatus and a method for displaying supplemental information using an illuminant element in a folder-type mobile communication terminal is provided to easily confirm a current state of the folder-type mobile communication terminal by displaying supplemental information using the illuminant element attached to the outside of a folder. CONSTITUTION: A display control unit(410) receives a battery residual quantity sensing value to judge a charge and discharge state of a battery and controls a battery residual quantity display, and receives a receiving signal converted as a baseband to confirm message receipt and receiving sensitivity and controls message receipt and receiving sensitivity display. A latch unit(420) latches display signals to the battery residual quantity, the message receipt, and the receiving sensitivity provided from the display control unit(410). A luminescent unit(430) receives the display signals latched in the latch unit(420) and performs luminescence.
