PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a reflection type liquid crystal device high in contrast and a reflection type color liquid crystal device capable of vivid color display. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device having a liquid crystal layer disposed between an upper and lower substrates and a metal reflection plate disposed on a lower substrate side is characterized in that a polarizing plate is disposed on the outside of the upper substrate, a light scattering plate is disposed between the polarizing plate and the upper substrate, a phase difference plate is disposed between the light scattering plate and the polarizing plate and the retardation and the twist angle of a liquid crystal are set so that incident light from a polarizing plate side reaches the reflection plate in a linearly polarized state when voltage is not applied to the liquid crystal layer. |
