PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide an oxidation-resistant hafnium carbide sintered body and an oxidation-resistant hafnium carbide-lanthanum boride (LaB6) sintered body, each of which is dense and has high relative density, and also to provide a wear-resistant electrode for plasma cutting, which is made by using, as its material, any of the sintered bodies. SOLUTION: The production process of this hafnium carbide sintered body or hafnium carbide-LaB6 sintered body, comprises sintering a hafnium carbide powder of a hafnium carbide-LaB6 powdery mixture 1 by sintering method using pulse electric heating while applying a pressure to the powder or powdery mixture 1 in a uniaxial direction to produce a hafnium carbide sintered body or hafnium carbide-LaB6 sintered body, wherein the higher the sintering temperature and the higher the applied pressure, the higher the relative density of the sintered body produced. Thus, the objective hafnium carbide sintered body or hafnium carbide-LaB6 sintered body, each having a >98% relative density, can easily be produced. By using this sintered body as the material of an electrode for plasma cutting, the wear resistance of the electrode is improved, and accordingly, the service life of the electrode can be prolonged. |
