PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To make panels easy to view by accurately sensing the illumination of the surface of an instrument panel. SOLUTION: A meter unit 10 is provided with both a meter panel 100 having a speedometer 110 and the like arranged thereon and an information display panel 150 for displaying letter or picture information, etc. An illuminating lamp is disposed on the back of the meter panel 100 having a translucent dial, and a light sensor 113 is provided adjacent to an indicator which indicates various information within the speedometer 110. Because the actual illumination on the instrument panel can be accurately detected based on the result of detection by the light sensor 113, the illuminating lamp is dimmed according to the result of detection to illuminate the panels in a manner which facilitates viewing by the driver. |
