摘要 PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain a liquid crystal display which is bright and has high use efficiency of back light illumination light, in a liquid crystal device utilizing a lateral electric field. SOLUTION: The liquid crystal device is provided with a liquid crystal layer 106 interposed between substrates 104 and 109, a color filter 102 formed on a surface of the liquid crystal layer side of the substrate 104, a polarizing plate 103 disposed on the surface of the other side different from the liquid crystal layer side of the substrate 104, a scanning signal line, an image signal line, a pixel electrode, a common electrode, an auxiliary capacitance electrode and an active element which are formed on a surface of the liquid crystal layer side of the substrate 109 and a polarizing plate 110 and an illuminator which are formed on the other side different from the liquid crystal layer side of the substrate 109. In this construction, An electric field substantially parallel to the face of the substrate is applied to the liquid crystal layer by the pixel and common electrodes. The reflectance on the illuminator side of at least one of the scanning signal line, the image signal line, the pixel electrode, the common electrode and the auxiliary capacitance electrode is specified to be >=50%.
