PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a lens device capable of safely housing a lens without performing complicated control by housing a front group lens after confirming that a rear group lens is within a safe area in the case of housing the lens. SOLUTION: In this lens device 2 where lens groups 46, 48 and 50 taking part in zooming and a lens group 52 taking part in focusing are actuated by different motors, a control part controls so that the lens group 52 may be moved to a camera main body side first and the lens groups 46, 48 and 50 may be housed in a camera main body after confirming that the lens group 52 gets in the safe area in the case of housing the respective lens groups in the camera main body.
