PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve a problem that the torque of an engine against a load is detected when a clutch is switched to a reverse position from a neutral position to prevent the occurrence of an engine stall at crush astern in a conventional marine reduction reverser, the coupling pressure of the clutch is controlled according to the load after the clutch is coupled to the reverse side, therefore the control timing of the coupling pressure is late, and the coupling pressure cannot be properly controlled. SOLUTION: When a forwardly cruising ship is to be quickly stopped by switching a clutch mechanism 100 to the reverse side from the forward side, the total hull load when the clutch mechanism is switched to the reverse position from the neutral position is estimated before the clutch mechanism is switched to the neutral position from the forward position. The total hull load is estimated by using the revolving speed of a propeller 7 when the clutch mechanism is switched to the neutral position from the forward position and the natural constant of the hull, and the coupling pressure of the clutch at the switching to the reverse side is calculated based on the estimated hull load.
|
