PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To improve the control quality of a brake control device by allowing the highly precise detection of transition to a highμroad during lowμcontrol for a lowμroad to give no feel of free running to a driver. SOLUTION: The brake control device comprises road surface change judging means for detecting a change from a lowμroad to a highμroad during ABS control. When a pressure intensifying time exceeds a preset threshold value and the magnitude of the reset acceleration of wheels during transition from pressure intensification to pressure non-intensification exceeds a preset value, the change of a road surface is judged for right and left front wheels and the judgement is kept. When the change of the road surface is judged for both right and left wheels, a change to a high friction coefficient road is finally judged.
