The present invention provides an improved information input device (10) and method for increased convenience and efficiency in entering a Uniform Resource Locator and accessing the Internet. The improved information input device and method of the present invention permit rapid entry of particular character strings and/or functions or commands that represent various portions of a Uniform Resource Locator or World Wide Web address, such as components of a domain name for example, when a character string key (22) is actuated, thereby increasing the speed with which a computer user can input a URL and decreasing the amount of time needed to access the Internet.
