PURPOSE: A copy protection device and method for an optical recorder is provided to be capable of more effectively protecting the copy of information recorded in an optical disk such as CD, DVD, etc. CONSTITUTION: A security code for copy protection of the optical disk is stored in a cartridge(10), which communicates with an optical disk player(20) to transmit the security code to the optical disk player(20). The optical disk player(20) communicates with the cartridge(10) when a new optical disk such as CD, DVD, etc. is loaded for receiving and storing the security code, and operates a corresponding optical disk only when the stored security code and a security code of the loaded optical disk are agreed to each other for replaying information of the optical disk.
