PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To reduce the weight of a core metal for a steering wheel and improve the shock absorbing characteristics thereof. SOLUTION: An upper shell 21 and a lower shell 22 are combined to form a hollow core metal 11. A lapping portion 44 provided along the edge of the lower shell 22 is plastically deformed for lapping a flange portion 64 provided along the edge of the lower shell 22 and joining the upper shell 21 to the lower shell 22. A boss core metal portion 16 is provided with an annular intermediate portion M located between a boss edge junction 16a at the outer periphery edge and a boss 23 at the center. A connection M1 is formed in the intermediate portion M via a space portion M2, where a deformable weak portion X is provided. When shocked, the connection M1 of the boss core metal potion 16 is deformed, while the rim core metal portion 15 and the spoke core metal portion 17 are kept in shape, facilitating good shock absorbing characteristics. |
