PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a process for efficiently producing a high-quality polycarbonate in the production of aromatic polycarbonate by a solid-phase polymerization process. SOLUTION: The treatment for chipping an aromatic polycarbonate and the treatment for crystallizing it are performed in an aromatic monohydroxy compound solution. It is preferable that the aromatic dihydroxy compound is a by-product produced by the reaction of the aromatic dihydroxy compound with the carbonate-bond-forming compound.
