PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To solve the problems that a conventional aluminum oxide-containing ceramic cutting tool does not satisfy required performances, in particular that thermal shock resistance, fusing resistance and high temperature wear resistance are unsatisfactory although there are increasing requirements for a longer life in a dry cutting tool for cutting without suing cutting oil originating from recent ecological problem and resource saving problem, an optimum cutting tool due to diversification including the change of material to be cut, and a long life cutting tool under high speed cutting condition or a high load cutting condition. SOLUTION: The aluminum oxide-containing ceramic sintered compact is composed of 15-45 vol % titanium carbonitride, <=10 vol % reinforcing material of at least one species selected from the nitride, carbide, oxide, carbon oxide and nitrogen oxide and carbon nitrogen oxide of Ti, the multiple nitride, multiple carbide, multiple oxide, multiple carbonitride, multiple carbon oxide, multiple nitrogen oxide and multiple carbon nitrogen oxide containing Ti and Al and an intermetallic compound containing Ti and Al and the balance aluminum oxide with inevitable impurities. |
