PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To obtain an organic-inorganic composite gradient material having a componential gradient structure in which the content of a metallic component is continuously and gradually varied in the thickness direction of the material, having good flexibility and scarcely causing a cracking, etc., even when the film thickness thereof is increased. SOLUTION: This organic-inorganic composite gradient material comprises a chemically bonded substance of an organic polymer compound and a metallic oxide-based compound, has the componential gradient structure in which the content of the metallic component is continuously varied from the surface of the material to the depth direction thereof and is obtained by using a mixture of (a) tetraisocyanatosilane and (b) an organosilicon compound represented by the general formula (I): R1nSi(OR2)4-n (I) (R1 is a nonhydrolyzable group; R2 is a 1-6C alkyl group; and n is an integer of 1-3) and/or a hydrolyzate or a condensate thereof as a raw material of the metallic oxide-based compound.
