Undersea valved hydraulic coupling

An undersea hydraulic coupling comprises a combined shut-off and pressure relief (bleeding) valve having a sleeve 39 biassed in a first direction by a spring 44. The sleeve carries poppet 54 biassed into engagement with an internal shoulder 31 of the sleeve. Fluid flow in a first direction occurs when the pressure differential across poppet 54 is sufficient to overcome bias of spring 50 allowing pressure relief when the coupling is disconnected. Fluid flow in the opposite direction can occur when pressure differential across sleeve 39 is sufficient to overcome spring 44 and cause the sleeve to move so that poppet 54 is abuts actuator 25 and lifts clear of the internal shoulder allowing fluid passage through the coupling. The pressure differential required to move the sleeve is greater than that to move the poppet. A radial seal 32 may be provided between the sleeve 39 and the housing. The shoulder 31 and end of the sleeve 41 are preferably inclined. The actuating member preferably comprises an elongate pin mounted on a passaged spring collar 28.
