PROBLEM TO BE SOLVED: To provide a larged-sized and thin optical molded object excellent in optical characteristics such as low double refractivity or the like, and a method for efficiently obtaining the same. SOLUTION: An optical molded object manufacturing method has a process for supplying a molten resin lamp formed by melting a thermoplastic resin in the cavity of a mold preheated to a predetermined temperature to press the same at the predetermined temperature and a cooling process for forcibly cooling the pressed molded object. A press molding apparatus used in this manufacturing method is provided. Further, the optical molded object such as a part for a liquid crystal display device, an optical lens, an optical data recording medium substrate or the like obtained by this manufacturing method is provided.
